James is an award winning cinematographer who has shot for every major studio and television network in this country as well as the BBC and several Australian TV networks. His credits include numerous shows for the Discovery Network, National Geographic, PBS, ESPN and TLC including "Brace for Impact".
James has shot features, movies of the week, commercials, music videos, documentaries, TV pilots and hundreds of hours of television programming. He DP'd the pilot for "Reno 911", and highlights have included a special episode of "West Wing," the Military Channel's "Special Ops Mission," and [un]Common Sounds, a 2-year documentary shoot exploring the contribution of music and the arts in nurturing sustainable peace building among Muslims and Christians. Recently he has been doing 2nd unit work for the Lifetime Movie Network. His short film "MAX" was named an International Cinematographer Guild's Showcase Award winner. He again won this prestigious award for the short film "Cruel Logic."
James is an adjunct professor at the USC School of Cinematic Arts and a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He is married to Dawn Carson O’Keeffe, a television and film producer and production accountant, and together they own Blue Field Productions. They have four fabulous kids and reside in Pasadena, CA.
